Things you Need to know about Sublimated Clothing

At Spida Sports, we specialise in creating sublimated clothing. We use the latest technologies in creating amazing looking sportswear that also helps you in your game. We offer sublimation for different sportswear such as dart shirts, BMX jerseys, bowling shirts, and any other sport. Wearing these sublimated uniforms will truly inspire the team.

Today, this is one of the most popular ways to print sportswear. It is a strong, high-quality print that looks great and allows the shirt to still be breathable which is perfect for sportswear. Before ordering your sublimated sportswear, here’s what you need to know.

The Process of Sublimation

What sets sublimation apart others is the sublimation process. This is what gives the clothes that beautiful design and overall quality. Instead of simply laying the ink on the fabric, it is actually incorporated into the cloth. This is done by heating the ink enough for it to turn into gas.

The fabric is also heated so the pores open up. The ink in the gas state then enters the pores of the fabric. Once cooled, the ink sets in the cloth and the process is done.

This process of sublimated clothing is what gives it its unique attributes and benefits.

Benefits of Sublimated Clothing

The first and foremost benefit of using sublimation for printing is that it creates a colourful, vibrant design onto the shirt which other processes can’t give. We can actually use a high-definition image for the design and it would retain the quality.

Another benefit is durability. Because the design is incorporated into the fabric of the shirt, it will not fade away easily or get scratched off.

When designing for sublimation printing, you can actually make use of unlimited colours. The process can handle any and all colours and they would look fantastic.

The overall finish of sublimated clothing is very smooth and soft. This is the perfect process if you want to keep the soft quality of the fabric you want to use.

And, as compared to other printing methods, sublimation printing is environmentally friendly.

Fabrics for Sublimated Clothing

A common misconception about sublimation clothing is that you can only use shirts that are 100% polyester. Although it is true that this is the only fabric that can hold the ink properly, using polyester-blends are actually very efficient as well. Depending on the blend, poly-blends can even give unique characteristics to the design.

You can also use nylon, spandex, and lycra fabrics for sublimation printing which would also provide great results.

As for the colour, it is ideal to make use of white or other light-coloured shirts so that the design shows up properly. This is because sublimation ink is relatively transparent so it looks better on lighter colours.

3 Ideas to custom design your Sportswear

Are you entering a new team to your local sports league? Trying to find inspiration for a sportswear design that sets you apart from the other teams?

Custom designing your team’s uniform gives you ultimate creativity and the opportunity to communicate and portray what your club represents.

Here are three ways to help decide on the design of your jersey.

1. Find inspiration in your values

What sets you apart from other teams in the community or neighbourhood that you belong to. This should translate into the colours you wear and the mascot that represents you.

For inspiration, look towards the values and people in your community. What does your community stand for? What is your local area known for?

Upon AFL debut in 2011, the Gold Coast Suns boasted a red and gold jersey. While most footy teams have an animal as their mascot and logo, the Suns chose to represent something more specific to the club origins. That is, of course, the beautiful, warm weather associated with the Queensland city. The Gold Coast is known as one of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations due to its sun and coastal vibes. So, when presented with a mix of other Australian teams, whose cities and suburbs give other meanings, the Gold Coast Suns decided to represent one of their best qualities through the nature of their team.

When brainstorming what your community represents, it helps to look at your local heroes for inspiration. This is especially relevant for jerseys during special rounds.

In the 2018 AFL Anzac round, Collingwood’s black and white stripes featured names and archival photos of ex-players who fought in the First World War, honouring their local heroes.

It’s important to find uniqueness in your community and apply it to the uniform your team represents.

2. Stick to tradition

You’ll notice that many junior teams look up to professional leagues for inspiration. They align their values with the teams and are essentially recycling what’s familiar to the sport and what already works well. This includes team colours, mascots, and songs.

For example, the Elizabeth Eagles took inspiration from the West Coast Eagles, while the Lockleys Demons took inspiration from the Melbourne Football Club, in the Adelaide Footy League.

This allows your team to give a nod to the tradition of the sport.

3. Unified, but with flexible options

A team is unified by the colours they wear. However, when ordering custom uniform, it’s important to consider flexibility, due to the different people who will be wearing them. Ordering a range of sizes is essential.

Additionally, depending on the sport, you should consider providing the sportswear in both short sleeve and long sleeve options. This allows the players to choose what type of uniform they feel most comfortable in, allowing them to perform their best. Boosted team morale leads to greater results.
