Team wear is what defines a team, it gives a sense of unity and fearlessness a team possess. Imagine your team’s bus pulling up to the stadium for a huge game. As the player’s get off of the coaches, you notice everyone is dressed differently, in their own individual style of clothing. How do you feel? Now imagine opponent’s team bus pulls off and the players get off the bus, you notice everyone is dressed in their team gear or matching suits. What’s your first impression?
Team gears and apparels are the first things we all notice, it is what differentiates a team from a bunch of people. Proper team color and gears are what gives fans something to cheer about and many people don’t realise it but team’s athletic gear says a lot about a team and has a lot of effect on its supporters. While accessories like headbands, shoe color may not match especially in football, as everyone has their own choice. When a team doesn’t match, they give off an air of unprofessionalism and that translates to lack of cohesiveness, as well as lack of respect from opponents.
As for the fans and supporters, their team’s jersey and gear mean a lot as they take a lot of pride in owning one and wearing it proud and loud. It’s simple to change how others view you and your team and as well how you and your team feel about yourself. Here are 8 do’s and don’ts considering you need to consider when it comes to team gears.
1. Do make sure your players match
Uniformity is major tagline when it comes to the team. Whether it is formal dressing or any training session, it is important that your player’s dresses match and your team looks like a team on and off the field. Setting a primary color and primary dress code is very important. This move can go a long way to make your team look like a cohesive unit.
2. Do Give your team a competitive advantage
When everyone’s dresses in the team matches, it increases everyone’s self-esteem which is a major factor when it comes to performance and boost in confidence is an easy way to get the most out of the players. Matching gears helps the team members to feel attached to one another and effectively increases confidence and improves the team’s moral and psychologically enhance athletic performance.
3. Don’t-let your team look unprepared
When a team goes for an away game wearing mismatched gears and jersey, it makes them look unprepared and detached from one another. The unpreparedness of a team can boost the opponent’s morale. Set the standard as soon as you get to the opponent’s facility and let your players carry that attitude to the field.
4. Don’t-ignore the details
Every single thing is important when it comes to the team. Even small details like sock’s hoops color, shoelaces’ color can make one player seem out of place. While small details are easy to overlook but these are the things that unify a team. When even a small details match like gloves, logo on the chest, they make a significant impression on the opposing team.
Apparently, these are the rules when it comes to the team, but there are separate rules when it comes to fans and supporters. As a sports fanatic myself, do’s and don’ts apply to every own donning the gear.
5. Don’t-let your shirt touch the ground
Team shirt and jerseys’ are the pride of a team. It is embodied with the club’s crest and putting it down to the ground is like you are disrespecting your team, clubs and fans. This rule applies to both team members and supporters.
6. Do-Wear the home colors at the home game
Every sports team has home and away colors. If you are going to a home game, always wear a home color shirt, it provides a feeling of connection that you are close to other supporters. For example, let’s take the famous group of supporters of Borussia Dortmund, their main stand of Westfalenstadion is called a Yellow wall. The reason is that their hoe color is yellow and the supporters all wear that yellow home shirt and that powers up the team’s confidence and attitude.
7. Don’t-wear a team’s jersey when a team is not playing
This is a talk of common sense, why would you wear a team’s shirt to a game when they are not playing? You will be abused by the opponent’s supporter plus you would be an outcast in the stand and you would the content of laughter.
8. Don’t wear your rivals team gear
“You can change your wife, your politics, your religion, but never, never can you change your favorite football team.” (Eric Cantona, Manchester United) Like the quote states, you should never ever wear a rival’s shirt, it’s just wrong. Team loyalty comes first of anything.
